Mr. Horton never planned to become a stairs expert. He just liked to walk around the Queen Anne neighborhood. And while doing so he frequently 'found' public stairs he'd never seen before. He would excitedly relate to his friends the thrill of finding new stairs and they generally rolled their eyes and answered, "Why don't you just go out and map them all?" So that's what he did. And then with the assistance of the Queen Anne Historical Society the Stairs Map was published. The media got hold of the story and fame and fortune has (not) followed.

While Mr. Horton put some of his research into the Map, he found there was a lot more to tell about the stairs. And that's where 4Culture comes in. They offered Mr. Horton a grant to create this website as a community resource for all things stairs.
